Last week, the Days of Democracy took place at TRIANGEL Transfer | Kultur | Raum in Karlsruhe, organised in partnership with the KIT Center Human and Technology (MuT). As part of the programme, the SOSEC consortium hosted the academic conference How Are You, Democracy? on 25 June.
Our group, Information Systems IV – Digital Platforms & Services, was represented by Julian Benz, who presented a poster on our project EKILED – Explainable AI for Learning about Digital Disinformation. In digitally networked publics, disinformation poses a real threat to trust in democratic institutions. EKILED strengthens democratic resilience by making AI disinformation detection transparent and turning it into a hands-on learning tool to help students and educators build the media literacy needed to engage critically with disinformation, and contributing to a more informed and resilient public.
The poster sparked lively exchanges with other researchers — plenty of valuable feedback and good discussions on disinformation detection, media literacy, and safeguarding democracy.
